Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often associated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much easier than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has 4 strong walls and a full height rood. It can vary in dimensions as well as in the number of rooms, yet in most cases it guarantees quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative in case you need to lower the costs. It can be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually contains most of the elementary equipment, such as shower or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out area on the ends of the van, which creates a perfect spot to place additional beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types described above, but because of all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – such decision hinges on whether you have right amount of time to drive required distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you choose to find a transport provider to ship your caravan, check if you have the precise measurements of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Cost of moving a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you will likely pay less.
