Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is frequently associated with great deal of difficulties, but actually it is much less difficult than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. It has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. It can vary in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, but generally it ensures pretty convenient travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice if you need to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car and usually contains the most basic equipment, like shower and a fridge. It provide you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and added pop-out area on the ends of the van, which is a perfect spot to fit extra beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types described before, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable and budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have enough time to drive needed route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you want to hire a transport provider to ship your caravan, confirm you know the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, inform the transport provider about condition of the caravan – like whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you are likely to pay less.
