Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much easier than we realize. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. It can range in length and in the number of rooms, however generally it ensures pretty pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative in case you need to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by most of the cars and usually contains most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and added expandable section on the ends of the vehicle, which is a convienient area to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable and economical way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have right amount of time to cover necessary route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you want to hire a shipping company to move your caravan, check if you have the specific dimensions of the caravan. Additionally make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – for example whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan on the road.
