Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently associated with great deal of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has 4 sturdy walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might differ in length and in the number of rooms, however in general it ensures quite convenient travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice if you need to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by almost any car and often contains most of the elementary equipment, like shower and a fridge. It provide you large living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which is a perfect spot to place extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types mentioned before, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and economical manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have enough time to cover needed route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you decide to find a shipping provider to transport your caravan, double-check if you know the specific measurements of the caravan. Moreover check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – like whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to get cheaper price.
