Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often associated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. It might differ in dimensions as well as in the number of rooms, but in general it guarantees quite satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great choice in case you need to lower the costs. It can be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually includes the most basic equipment, such as shower and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and added expandable area on the ends of the vehicle, which is a convienient spot to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types described before, but because of the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient as well as affordable way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to drive required route and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you want to find a shipping company to move your caravan, verify if you give them the precise dimensions of the caravan. Additionally check if its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies frequently have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you will likely pay less.
