Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is frequently associated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has four sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type can vary in length and in the amount of rooms, still in general it ensures pretty comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great alternative in case you might want to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by nearly every car , moreover it usually contains most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and added pop-out area on the ends of the van, which is a convienient area to place extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types described above, but thanks to having all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient as well as affordable manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to travel needed route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you want to hire a shipping provider to transport your caravan, check if you give them the exact measurements of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, instruct the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies frequently have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Price of transporting a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Other than that , the price is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you will likely pay less.
