Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, do not forget to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has four strong walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can vary in length and in the number of rooms, still generally it ensures pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good choice if you might want to decrease the costs. It can be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually includes the most basic equipment, like hot water or a fridge. It gives you considerable amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and added pop-out area on the foot and the head of the van, which is a perfect spot to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types mentioned above, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and economical way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have enough time to travel needed route and whether the caravan itself is functional.

In case you decide to hire a shipping company to ship your caravan, verify if you give them the specific measurements of the caravan. Additionally confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – like whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you will likely pay less.
