Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common type of caravan. It has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might vary in dimensions as well as in the number of rooms, yet in general it provides quite pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative if you might want to lower the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and often includes most of the elementary equipment, such as shower and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out area on the ends of the van, which creates a perfect area to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but thanks to having the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient and economical manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive needed route and whether the caravan itself is working.

If you choose to hire a shipping company to move your caravan, confirm you know the specific measurements of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, inform the hauler about condition of the caravan – like whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Price of transporting a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
