Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is frequently associated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much easier than we realize. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular type of caravan. This type has four sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. It might differ in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, but in general it ensures quite comfortable travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative if you might want to decrease the costs. It may be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, such as shower and a fridge. It gives you large amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as extra pop-out area on the ends of the vehicle, which is a convienient area to fit extra beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable as well as budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have enough time to travel necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you decide to find a transport company to transport your caravan, make sure you give them the specific measurements of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – like whether brakes work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t need to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of cargo}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
