Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually associated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much easier than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has 4 sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan might differ in length as well as in the number of rooms, however in most cases it ensures pretty comfortable travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative in case you need to decrease the costs. It can be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, like hot water and a fridge. It provide you large living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra expandable section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a perfect area to fit additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types described above, but because they provide with all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable and affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel needed distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you want to hire a shipping provider to transport your caravan, double-check if you have the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, inform the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of loads}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
