Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually correlated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than we realize. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, remember to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can range in length as well as in the amount of rooms, however in most cases it provides quite pleasant travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine alternative if you need to lower the costs. It can be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually includes the most basic equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. It gives you considerable living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and extra expandable area on the foot and the head of the van, which is a perfect area to place extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types mentioned before, but because they provide with the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and budget manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to cover necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you want to hire a shipping company to move your caravan, make sure you know the exact dimensions of the caravan. Additionally make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, instruct the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Cost of moving a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
