Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much easier than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common kind of caravan. This type has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. It can differ in length and in the amount of rooms, yet in general it guarantees quite satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice in case you need to lower the costs. It may be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually contains most of the elementary equipment, like hot water or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as extra pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which is a perfect area to fit additional beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but thanks to having all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as budget way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to travel needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you decide to find a shipping provider to transport your caravan, verify if you have the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not have to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the condition of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to get cheaper price.
