Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often associated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less difficult than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has four sturdy walls and a full height rood. It can range in length as well as in the number of rooms, yet in general it guarantees pretty pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative if you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually contains most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which helps to increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as additional expandable area on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a perfect spot to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but because of all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as budget manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have right amount of time to cover required route and whether the caravan itself is functional.

In case you decide to find a transport provider to ship your caravan, confirm you give them the precise measurements of the caravan. Additionally make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, warn the hauler about state of the caravan – for example whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
