Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is frequently associated with great deal of problems, but actually it is much less difficult than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan by yourself, do not forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most common type of caravan. It has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. It can differ in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, however in general it provides quite comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative in case you need to lower the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car , moreover it often contains the most basic equipment, like shower or a fridge. Tent trailer provide you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as additional pop-out area on the foot and the head of the van, which is a convienient area to place extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types described above, but thanks to having the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable as well as affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (for example a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to cover required distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you choose to find a transport provider to transport your caravan, check if you give them the precise dimensions of the caravan. Moreover make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – like whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping companies often have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of loads}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
