Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often correlated with great deal of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, do not forget to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular type of caravan. This type has four solid walls and a full height rood. It can vary in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, but in general it ensures quite pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great choice in case you need to decrease the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and usually contains most of the elementary equipment, like hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable section on the ends of the vehicle, which is a perfect area to fit additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but thanks to having all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable as well as budget way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to cover required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

In case you decide to hire a transport provider to transport your caravan, check if you know the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you do not have to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of moving a caravan

Price of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you will likely pay less.
