Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually associated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. It might vary in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, however in most cases it ensures pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great choice if you want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by almost any car , moreover it usually contains most of the elementary equipment, like hot water and a fridge. It provide you large amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as additional expandable area on the foot and the head of the van, which is a convienient spot to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types described before, but thanks to having all the elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – it hinges on whether you have right amount of time to travel needed route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you choose to hire a transport provider to move your caravan, verify if you give them the exact dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, instruct the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers frequently have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to pay less.
