Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often correlated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much easier than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. It has 4 strong walls and a full height rood. It might vary in length and in the amount of rooms, however in general it guarantees quite pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative if you need to lower the costs. It may be towed by almost any car and usually includes the most basic equipment, like hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as additional pop-out section on the ends of the van, which is a perfect area to fit additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types described before, but because of all the elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and affordable manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have enough time to cover required distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

If you choose to find a shipping provider to move your caravan, confirm you give them the specific dimensions of the caravan. Additionally check if its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, inform the transport provider about state of the caravan – for example whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t have to worry about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Furthermore, transport companies often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you will likely get cheaper price.
