Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually associated with a lot of difficulties, but in fact it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual type of caravan. This type has 4 strong walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might vary in length as well as in the number of rooms, still generally it ensures pretty pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great choice if you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by most of the cars , moreover it usually contains the most basic equipment, like shower and a fridge. It provide you considerable amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as extra expandable section on the ends of the van, which is a perfect area to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – they offer less living space than the types described before, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient and budget way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have right amount of time to cover needed route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you decide to find a transport provider to move your caravan, check if you have the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, instruct the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies frequently have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Price of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the state of the vehicle – if it is fully functional, you are likely to get cheaper price.
