Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is often correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. This type has 4 sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. It might vary in length as well as in the number of rooms, yet in most cases it provides pretty comfortable travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice in case you might want to decrease the costs. It may be towed by almost any car and often contains most of the elementary equipment, like shower or a fridge. It gives you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out section on the foot and the head of the van, which is a convienient spot to fit extra beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than the types mentioned before, but because of the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – it depends on whether you have enough time to drive required route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

In case you want to hire a shipping provider to transport your caravan, confirm you have the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also check if its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, inform the transport provider about condition of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers frequently invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Price of transporting a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the cost is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
