Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, remember to make sure that your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular type of caravan. It has four strong walls and a full height rood. It can range in length and in the number of rooms, still generally it provides pretty convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative if you want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by most of the cars and often contains most of the elementary equipment, such as shower and a fridge. It gives you considerable amount of living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as extra pop-out section on the foot and the head of the van, which is a perfect spot to place extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and economical way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to ship a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

If you decide to hire a shipping provider to move your caravan, make sure you give them the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – like whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures concern the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during shipment.

Cost of moving a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the state of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
