Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is often associated with great deal of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. It can range in length as well as in the number of rooms, still generally it ensures pretty satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good choice in case you might want to lower the costs. It may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it often includes most of the elementary equipment, such as shower or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as extra pop-out section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient area to fit extra beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types described above, but thanks to having the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest type of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to travel required route and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you choose to hire a shipping provider to ship your caravan, verify if you know the exact dimensions of the caravan. Moreover confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, inform the transport provider about state of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping companies often have product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the cost is also affected by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to get cheaper price.
