Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is frequently associated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, remember to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has four strong walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can differ in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, yet generally it provides pretty satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or two axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a fine alternative in case you might want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car , moreover it usually includes most of the elementary equipment, like shower and a fridge. It provide you large living space however offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and additional expandable section on the ends of the van, which creates a convienient area to place additional beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types mentioned before, but because of the most needed basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a convenient as well as budget manner of travelling. 

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – it depends on whether you have enough time to cover necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you choose to find a transport company to transport your caravan, make sure you have the precise measurements of the caravan. Additionally make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, inform the transport provider about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.
