Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is often associated with great deal of problems, but actually it is much less difficult than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan by yourself, don’t forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do it.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has four sturdy walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type can differ in length as well as in the number of rooms, but generally it ensures pretty comfortable travelling environment. Conventional caravans come in 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good alternative in case you might want to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by almost any car and often includes most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. It provide you large amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not provide much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional expandable section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which creates a convienient area to fit additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as the types mentioned above, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel comfortably. Because of its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have enough time to travel needed distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

In case you want to find a shipping company to move your caravan, double-check if you give them the exact dimensions of the caravan. Additionally make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Moreover, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the rules concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the condition of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you will likely pay less.
