Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is usually associated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common kind of caravan. It has 4 sturdy walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan can vary in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, however in general it provides quite convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a good choice if you might want to decrease the costs. It may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it often contains most of the elementary equipment, like shower or a fridge. Tent trailer gives you large living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a perfect area to fit additional beds, in case you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned before, but because of all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and affordable way of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to travel required distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you want to find a transport company to ship your caravan, confirm you have the specific dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the regulations concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the cost is also affected by the condition of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely get cheaper price.
