Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with great deal of difficulties, but in fact it is much less difficult than we realize. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual kind of caravan. It has 4 solid walls as well as a full height rood. A conventional caravan can vary in length as well as in the amount of rooms, still generally it guarantees quite satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great alternative in case you want to lower the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by nearly every car and often contains most of the elementary equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. It provide you considerable living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out section on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a convienient area to fit additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most favored by large families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but thanks to having all the elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient as well as affordable way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, so that whole families can travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to cover needed distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of covering the distance.

If you choose to hire a transport provider to move your caravan, verify if you know the precise measurements of the caravan. Additionally make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, instruct the transport provider about state of the caravan – like whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to move your caravan you do not have to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers often have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Price of shipping a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
