Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less difficult than we realize. If you want to ship a caravan by yourself, do not forget to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has 4 strong walls as well as a full height rood. Mentioned type might range in length as well as in the amount of rooms, but in general it ensures pretty comfortable travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good choice if you might want to decrease the costs. It can be towed by nearly every car and often contains most of the elementary equipment, like hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, which can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan as well as extra expandable section on the ends of the vehicle, which creates a convienient spot to place additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than the types described above, but because of all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a comfortable and budget way of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision hinges on whether you have right amount of time to cover necessary distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you want to hire a transport company to transport your caravan, check if you give them the specific dimensions of the caravan. Moreover make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, warn the hauler about condition of the caravan – like whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to move your caravan you do not have to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations apply to the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan during transportation.

Cost of moving a caravan

Cost of moving a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of cargo}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the state of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
