Yachts transportation

Transporting a yacht demand special supplies and careful preparation. A sailing boat is a very fragile and costly cargo. Any damages (which can be pretty simple to get) may badly impair the yacht’s value. That’s why it would be smart to search for help from an experienced transport provider to ship a sailing boat – his experience and skills will be your warrant that transported yacht will safely arrive at its destination.

Still regardless of whether you decide to hire a hauler to transport a sailing boat, you still need to do a few things personally. Firstly, check the precise dimensions of your yacht. You can base on the information given by the manufacturer, but it is always best to measure the boat yourself, as even minor disparities in size can make shipping harder and in some cases even impossible. You should check 3 different dimensions when searching for a transport provider for your sailing boat: the length, the height and the beam. Length of the yacht should be measured between the bow and the transom. The yacht length shouldn’t include any elements that are located outside of the boat, e.g. an outboard motor. The yacht’s height should be measured from the keel to the highest point of the vessel. And lastly, the beam – it is checked at the widest point of the boat, which usually means in the middle of the vessel.

Remember that taking the right dimensions of the boat does not only affect the security of the shipment but additionally its price. More than that, it may also influence the time the transportation may occur – because there are countries where the loads beyond a particular size may not be permitted on the road in some times of a day.

Naturally, the most risk-free way to transport a yacht is to use a trailer dedicated to transporting a boat or a semitrailer (depending on the size of the boat). If you decide to get help from a hauler, you do not have to worry about securing it properly – the hauler will take care of that. When searching for a proper hauler, ask if he has a carrier liability insurance, that will entitle you to demand a repayment if anything should happen to your boat in transportation.

The price of yacht shipment mostly depends on the dimensions of the yacht as well as how long the route is. Other price-defining factor are atmospheric conditions – harsh weather conditions can lead to damaging of the boat. In case there is a risk your boat will be transported in varying atmospheric conditions, the transport provider will have to shield it against those conditions, and it may alter the price of the transportation.
