Transporting a caravan

Moving a caravan is usually correlated with a lot of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than we realize. If you plan on shipping a caravan by yourself, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most common type of caravan. It has 4 strong walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might vary in length as well as in the amount of rooms, but in most cases it guarantees pretty convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

B Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great choice in case you need to lower the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and often contains the most basic equipment, like hot water and a fridge. It provide you large amount of living space however offers very little wind resistance.

C Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and extra pop-out area on the ends of the van, which is a perfect area to place extra beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer less living space than most of the types mentioned before, but because they provide with all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable and affordable manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (such as a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have enough time to drive needed distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you choose to hire a shipping company to ship your caravan, verify if you give them the exact measurements of the caravan. Moreover confirm that its insurance hasn’t expired. In addition, instruct the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the requirements concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport providers frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during shipment.

Price of shipping a caravan

Price of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to get cheaper price.
