Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently associated with a lot of problems, but actually it is much less complex than it seems. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do that.

Types of caravans

A Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has 4 sturdy walls and a full height rood. It might vary in length and in the amount of rooms, but in most cases it provides quite convenient travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in one or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative if you want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by most of the cars and usually includes most of the elementary equipment, like shower and a fridge. Tent trailer gives you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

C Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this type of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan as well as added expandable area on the ends of the van, which is a convienient spot to place extra beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among big families.

5) Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types described before, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel in comfort. Due to its considerable size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (like a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan by yourself – such decision hinges on whether you have enough time to drive required distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

In case you choose to find a transport provider to ship your caravan, confirm you have the exact measurements of the caravan. Moreover make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. Moreover, inform the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes work properly.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you don’t need to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the procedures concern the transport provider. Moreover, transport companies frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, if anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Cost of moving a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is withmost types of cargo}. Additionally, the price is also affected by the state of the caravan – if it is able to drive on its own, you will likely pay less.
