Transporting a caravan

Transporting a caravan is frequently correlated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much less difficult than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, don’t forget to check if your driving license enables you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. It has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. Mentioned type can range in length and in the amount of rooms, but in general it provides pretty pleasant travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have one or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a great alternative if you need to lower the costs. Tent trailer can be towed by nearly every car and often includes most of the elementary equipment, such as shower and a fridge. It provide you considerable living space however offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, which can increase the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out section on the foot and the head of the vehicle, which is a convienient spot to place additional beds, should you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are the most popular among large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than the types described above, but thanks to having all the basic equipment (shower, fridge and so on) it is a comfortable and affordable manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Because of its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to travel required distance and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you want to hire a transport provider to move your caravan, verify if you have the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, instruct the hauler about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the regulations concern the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers often invest in product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Price of moving a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan hinges on its dimensions and weight (as it is with almost every type of cargo}. Other than that , the price is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is fully functional, you are likely to pay less.
