Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is frequently associated with great deal of difficulties, but in fact it is much less difficult than we realize. If you plan on transporting a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as the name suggests, this is the most usual type of caravan. It has four solid walls as well as a full height rood. It can differ in length as well as in the amount of rooms, but generally it provides pretty pleasant travelling conditions. Conventional caravans may have 1 or two axles.

2) Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a fine choice in case you want to lower the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and usually contains the most basic equipment, such as hot water and a fridge. Tent trailer provide you large amount of living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this kind is similar to conventional caravans with the addition of a expendable roof, which helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

D Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan is equipped with all the advantages of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out area on the ends of the vehicle, which is a convienient area to place additional beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by large families.

5) Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers not as much living space as most of the types described above, but because they provide with the most needed basic equipment (shower, hot water and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a convenient and affordable manner of travelling.

6) The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest kind of caravan. It provides with very big amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel comfortably. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler requires a larger vehicle to tow it (for example a pickup truck).

Sometimes it is impossible to ship a caravan on your own – it depends on whether you have enough time to cover necessary route and whether the caravan itself is capable of travelling such distance.

If you want to find a shipping provider to ship your caravan, check if you know the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also confirm that its insurance is up-to-date. In addition, warn the transport provider about condition of the caravan – e.g. whether brakes are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to think about your driving license or speed limits  - all the procedures apply to the transport provider. Moreover, shipping providers often invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan during transportation.

Price of shipping a caravan

Cost of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar tomost types of loads}. Additionally, the cost is also affected by the state of the vehicle – if it is undamaged, you are likely to get cheaper price.
