Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is frequently correlated with great deal of problems, but in fact it is much less complex than we realize. If you want to transport a caravan on your own, remember to check if your driving license allows you to do it.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most usual type of caravan. It has four strong walls and a full height rood. It can vary in dimensions as well as in the amount of rooms, still in general it ensures quite satisfying travelling environment. Conventional caravans may have 1 or 2 axles.

2) Tent trailer – is a type of caravan that is a great alternative if you want to decrease the costs. Tent trailer may be towed by most of the cars , moreover it often contains most of the elementary equipment, such as shower and a fridge. It gives you considerable living space but offers very little wind resistance.

3) Pop-top caravans -  this type is very much alike conventional caravans with the addition of a lifting roof, that helps expanding the living space. Pop-top caravans, similar to a tent trailer does not offer much wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional expandable area on the foot and the head of the van, which creates a convienient area to place additional beds, should you need them. Pop-out caravans are especially favored by big families.

E Camper trailers – this type of caravan offers less living space than the types mentioned above, but thanks to having the most needed elementary equipment (shower, hot water and so on) it is a convenient and budget manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the biggest kind of caravan. It offers very big amount of living space, so that whole families can travel in comfort. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (e. g. a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive required distance and whether the caravan itself is working.

In case you choose to find a shipping company to move your caravan, check if you have the precise dimensions of the caravan. Also make sure that its insurance is up-to-date. Futhermore, warn the transport provider about state of the caravan – e.g. whether lights work properly.

When relying on a transport provider to transport your caravan you do not need to worry about your driving license or speed limits  - all the rules apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers frequently have product liability insurance, which will ensure you a compensation, should any damage is done to the caravan on the road.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Price of shipping a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the cost is also affected by the condition of the vehicle – if it is able to drive on its own, you are likely to pay less.
