Transporting a caravan

Shipping a caravan is frequently correlated with a lot of difficulties, but actually it is much easier than it seems. If you want to ship a caravan on your own, do not forget to make sure that your driving license allows you to do that.

Kinds of caravans

1) Conventional caravan – as can be deduced from the name, this is the most popular kind of caravan. This type has 4 solid walls and a full height rood. A conventional caravan might range in dimensions and in the amount of rooms, still in most cases it ensures quite satisfying travelling conditions. Conventional caravans come in 1 or two axles.

B Tent trailer – this type of caravan is a good alternative if you want to lower the costs. It may be towed by nearly every car and usually includes the most basic equipment, such as shower or a fridge. It gives you considerable amount of living space but offers much less wind resistance than a conventional caravan.

3) Pop-top caravans -  they are similar to conventional caravans with the exception of a expendable roof, that can expand the living space. Pop-top caravans, much like a tent trailer provides very little wind resistance.

4) Pop-out caravans – this kind of caravan has all the features of a pop-top caravan and additional pop-out area on the foot and the head of the van, which is a convienient area to fit extra beds, in case you are in need of them. Pop-out caravans are especially popular among large families.

E Camper trailers – they offer not as much living space as most of the types mentioned above, but because they provide with the most needed elementary equipment (shower, fridge and so on) camper trailers are considered to be a comfortable as well as economical manner of travelling.

F The fifth-wheeler – this is the largest type of caravan. It provides with considerable amount of living space, which allows whole families to travel pleasantly. Due to its large size,  the fifth-wheeler must be towed by a larger vehicle instead of a regular car (for example a pickup truck).

It is not always possible to transport a caravan on your own – such decision depends on whether you have right amount of time to drive needed distance and whether the caravan itself is functional.

If you choose to hire a transport provider to move your caravan, confirm you have the exact dimensions of the caravan. Moreover make sure that its insurance hasn’t expired. Futhermore, instruct the transport provider about condition of the caravan – for example whether lights are fully functional.

When hiring a transport provider to ship your caravan you don’t have to think about your driving license or crossing the borders  - all the requirements apply to the transport provider. Furthermore, shipping providers frequently invest in product liability insurance, which ensures you a compensation, should anything happens with the caravan on the road.

Cost of transporting a caravan

Price of transporting a caravan depends on its dimensions and weight (similar to almost every type of loads}. Additionally, the price is also defined by the state of the caravan – if it is undamaged, you will likely get cheaper price.
